FIND Job Opening: Project Manager (closed)

THE FLORIDA INLAND NAVIGATION DISTRICT HAS AN IMMEDIATE JOB OPENING FOR A FULL-TIME PROJECT MANAGER

Who is FIND and How Will YOU fit in?
The Florida Inland Navigation District (FIND) is the local sponsor to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW), a congressionally-authorized federal navigation project. FIND is tasked with providing lands and resources to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) to manage and maintain the ICW. FIND also directly funds and manages dredging and construction projects related to the ICW to supplement the USACE budget and work plan. FIND manages over 50 upland spoil sites for the ICW. In addition, FIND administers a robust grants program for State and local project sponsors to cost-share in waterway improvement and access projects.

FIND is a small, progressive, hands-on agency that manages the ICW in a responsible and pro-active manner for the benefit of the waterway, its users and the environment. It is not unusual for FIND to have several larger projects (dredging, upland construction, waterway management) underway while managing many smaller projects and programs (grants, site maintenance, public awareness etc.). The successful candidate must exhibit a ‘team” mindset, be able to work well within a group, as well as unassisted.

The new team member for FIND should have a working knowledge of Florida’s east coast waterways, as well as experience in managing both complex projects and small issues. Experience with construction and environmental permitting is desired. The successful applicant should be able to read plans, engineering drawings, contracts, and permits, as well develop successful working relationships with engineers, permitting agencies, contractors, independent businesses and the general public. The applicant should be comfortable operating a vehicle, both on and off road, a small boat in nearshore waters, GIS field data logging, and the operation of other applicable field equipment. The job responsibilities will require the occasional night meeting or partial weekend, as well as monthly overnight stays along Florida’s east coast.

Job Responsibilities:
• Function as project manager for ongoing FIND projects, both large and small, and report to the Executive Director on project progress, issues and resolutions
• Develop a schedule and work plan for site maintenance and inspection
• Procure contracts for site development and maintenance
• Assist and respond to co-workers, contractors, engineers, maintenance and field personnel and the general public to ensure project scheduling, progress and delivery, as well as to develop projects, disseminate information, and resolve conflicts
• Provide information and support for the planning and execution of monthly board meetings, public events, field visits, project progress meetings, etc.

Applicant Requirements:
• A four-year degree in construction management, engineering, environmental management or closely related field. An advanced degree is preferable
• Ability to drive and trailer for distances along Florida’s east coast
• Ability to safely operate and navigate a boat in coastal waters
• Experience and proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs
• Experience with GIS field data logger and data entry
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently and in a team setting
• Must meet deadlines and be able to multi-task

• Ability to lift, pull or move heavy objects and materials (30-50 pounds)
• Ability to use motorized equipment and hand tools
• Must be willing to relocate or commute regularly
